Lineage
Torres del Paine, Chile
The women lined up behind me, and all around
And they wept because they witnessed my freedom
Our freedom
That which is mine because of them.
That which is theirs, because of me.
That which is ours because of one another.
I walk among the mountains, carrying my life on my back, my home in my heart. Hope wisps through the air. Dreams gleam through the crevasses & crevices
The land is untouched. Yet to be tainted or defiled
The air is pure, unsullied & clean
The mountains are vast, neither conquered nor taken captive
We are all free
And so I walk, without fear or worry of what follows, only elation for a world that expands with each step forward
And so I walk free, belonging neither to no one nor to anything, yet to everything all at once
And so I walk free, unhindered, ignorant, & oblivious to a world that was once not made for me
And so I walk free, with all the possibilities of the Infinite spread among the stars sparkling in the heavens above
And so I walk free, with a whole lineage of women behind me, weeping that, at last, we’ve made it
A hundred thousand years. Many millennias. And much, much more time has passed in hope of such a feat
The pride & glory of such liberation shakes me, all the while making me steadier, sturdier, & stabler than ever before
It's not until this moment that I realize the grandeur of life, my life, that which has passed, that which has yet to come, & that which I was breathing into myself at that very moment
It's not until this moment that I see my past sisters & wonder…
How many of them lived confined to a life they did not want much less deserve?
How long did they stay imprisoned to captors invisible & real?
How long had they been waiting for me to walk unrestrained upon this magnificent Earth?
How long have they been waiting to be free?
It wasn’t until this moment that I recognized with clarity my own freedom
To live as my heart so wishes
To be as my soul so craves
It wasn’t until this moment that I vowed to them, and to myself, to never let it leave me, for the sake of them, for the sake of us, & for the sake of all who are & for all who have yet to be ♡
