Never as Far as We Think We Are

The Laurels, Pennsylvania, USA

We’re never as close as we want to be, yet never as far as we think we are

Ni estamos tan cerca como quisiéramos ni tan lejos como creemos

The steepness of the hill that rises before our feet naturally incites a sense of trepidation

The road ahead that has no end in sight easily leaves us feeling disheartened

We’re apt to let wrong turns taken, and deadends reached convince us that we’ve failed or that we have some incurable incompetence

We’re prone to scrutinize our pace for its slowness, hard-pressed and hell-bent on reaching some mark that may or may not be based on an implausible reality

In cursing our shortcomings, we blind ourselves to see how far we have come

We forget to turn our heads and minds in retrospect to witness the grueling path we’ve already traversed. But we can refocus our vision that has tunneled to see the grander picture, the bird’s-eye view of our journey

Oftentimes, it’s in recognizing with admiration how far we’ve come along the long and winding road that enheartens and enlivens us to keep moving forward

To accept where we are, to understand why we are there, can very well be the first step to take the next step forward, freeing us from the chains of cynicism that keep us stuck and unmoving in one place

To move forward with conviction of our capabilities is to turn all those battles and wars into love and hope

It is to choose to believe in ourselves because we've already made it through the darkest of days ✨️
